Italian textile machinery orders up 18% year-on-year in 2017

The textile machinery order index compiled by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) shows an average increase of 18% in 2017 compared to 2016. Not only did domestic orders in Italy increase significantly by 36%, but also foreign markets grew by 16% in orders over the year.

Not only did domestic orders in Italy increase significantly by 36%, but also foreign markets grew by 16% in orders over the year.
In the period from October to December 2017, the order index increased by 29% year-on-year to 120.9 points (in 2010 it was 100). For the export market, the index stood at 128 points in absolute terms (+23%), while for the Italian domestic market it stood at 72%, compared to 94.5 points in the October-December 2016 period.
Alessandro Zucchi, President of ACIMIT, commented, “The 2017 Order Index confirms that our industry is in good shape and that the production trend has been growing since 2015. The textile industry is now more focused than ever on researching the applications offered by Industry 4.0. The industry's needs are constantly evolving, the market's notion of time is taken to extremes, and the required production processes must be fast and interconnected in order to meet the needs of the end consumer. That said, it's hard to imagine 4.0 incentives having such significant leverage.”
ACIMIT, which represents some 300 Italian textile machinery manufacturers, is expected to have cumulatively produced €2.7 billion worth of machines in 2017, with exports accounting for more than 85% of total sales.
